Friday, September 1 through Satuday, September 23

The Burke Quilters’ Guild invites the community to come and see what members have been working on at its annual quilt show. The quilt show will officially open to the public Friday, Sept 1 and be accessible at CoMMA during the auditorium's business hours for free. Visitors to the show will get to see about 70 quilts, according to quilt show committee member Linda Henson.

Guild president Debbie Mangold thanks the quilt show committee, challenge committee and hospitality committee for helping to pull off the highlight of the guild’s year. About half a dozen members on each committee plan the luncheon, make the quilt show ribbons, distribute quilt show forms, register the quilts, assist in the judging, and hang the quilts up to show.

The quilts are judged each year by a guest quilting professional. Awards will be given to quilters for various categories, such as quality of piecing, appliqué work and machine embroidery. Each category will have first, second and third-place winners and an honorable mention.

The quilt show will run through Saturday, Sept. 23.

Quilt show committee chair Barbara Whipple encourages people to come to CoMMA to enjoy the quilts. “They’ll see a lot of beautiful quilts,” Whipple said. “They ought to come and see what these wonderful quilters can do in this town.” Mangold shared her thoughts. “CoMMA is a beautiful building, and it’s been made very beautiful with the addition our quilts” Mangold said. “We would love to have as many people here as possible to experience both the CoMMA and to see these crafts that enrich the community.”
