Nearly 275 years after it was first performed, Messiah has become a holiday season staple. Experience the job of the season by singing along (or just listening!) to the much beloved music of Handel’s Messiah. Singers are encouraged to bring a copy of the score if they have one (a limited number will be available at the door). The experience is unique and the chorus is you!

During the fall of 2016 Reuter Pipe Organ Company refurbished and significantly upgraded the First Baptist Church organ, restoring it to its original splendor – and more. The organ features three manuals, with 49 ranks of pipes, and its recent renovation has enhanced the instrument tremendously.

Organist Mrs. Rebecca Myrick-Poteat will accompany the soloists and assembled choir in this Messiah sing-along. A highly accomplished musician, Mrs. Myrick-Poteat holds degrees from Appalachian State University, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

Event will be held at First Baptist Church – 502 West Union Street.

When he was commissioned to decorate the ceiling in the Gallery of the City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium, contemporary fresco master Benjamin F. Long, IV selected the nine Muses of Greek mythology as fitting subjects for the project because of their legendary role in inspiring all human endeavors in the arts and sciences. The muses were of divine parentage, probably the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. They were courtiers of the divinities who inhabited Mount Olympus, and they served as companions of Apollo in his aspect as the god of music. Join us in the CoMMA Gallery as we welcome Benjamin F. Long, IV, fresco artist of “Sacred Dance & The Muses” back to CoMMA for an informative evening about the art of Fresco creation.

Others have attended one of the literally thousands of productions this extraordinary play has received over the years. With sincerity, honesty, and an utter ease on stage that belies their years, the Malpass Brothers’ smooth vocal blend and skillful musicianship layer infectiously into the deep respect they pay to country legends who have paved the way. Add the funny, off-the-cuff quips between the two 20-something siblings, and the engaging concert becomes a magnetic time-traveling journey to when a calmer rhythm reigned supreme.

Their music is steeped in the legacy of the Louvin Brothers, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Hank Williams, Sr. & others. If you like cornbread and hush puppies, you’re gonna love the Malpass Brothers.
